 hydrogen is using the internet?
whenever i'm on Hydrogen my network usage increases to 100 percent! i have no idea what is going on. it doesn't stop me from using the internet though. i'm running Hardy Heron and i installed from Add/Remove Programs. I've googled it but haven't found anything remotely related to this phenomenon...

hmm curious, normally h2 only connect to network/internet if you install drumkits by using the new "network sound-library installer".

which version of hydrogen do you use, and where do you have download the binaries or sources?

Hi!

Yes, hydrogen uses the internet at startup. It tries to get the latest "news" from a server. This a message which contains informations about new versions etc. But that's just a small chunk of data, some kb.
Not sure why this could cause 100% network load :-/

Does this mean it won't start and run without an internet connection? I'd like to try Hydrogen but I don't have internet connections on my DAWs.

Hi!

No, it runs even if you have no internet connection, that's not a problem!

Hi rodrigo!

Please try to install a more recent version of hydrogen, you should be able to get a package for ubuntu 9.10 at sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hydrogen/files/

I have disabled the "feature" that hydrogen tries to connect to the hydrogen server on startup in 0.9.5, maybe that works better for you.

 thanks!
i've been using linux (ubuntu) for a couple of years now, but i had never before installed anything not on synaptic's list. i downloaded 0.9.5 betasomething, installed it without any trouble and it the network issue is gone, didn't have to disable anything.
solved a problem and learnt something new =)
thanks!
