Set automatic velocity

Greetings!  Finally joined, after using Hydrogen for several years.  First post...here's my question:

Instrument-->Layers-->Load Layer-->Set automatic velocity - what is the effect of this setting, exactly?

The user manual doesn't seem to mention this.  The tool tip states only, "Be careful, this change all Layer velocity settings" ... but in what way?

Thanks for a great bit of software, everyone!

Hi Dmtaylor and welcome !

IIRC this option allows you to select multiple samples at once and assign each to a layer

with multiple layers the velocity of each layer must be 1 'step' louder that the previous (assuming all samples have been normalized, but that's a different story)

Set auto velocity does this automatically for you

hope this makes sense !

(will add it to the manual)

Thijs: Thanks for the welcome, and the prompt response!

I've figured it out.  This setting is effective only when adding a single layer to an existing set.

  • Disabled:  The new layer will span the entire velocity range, and pre-existing layers will be unaffected.
  • Enabled:  All layers will be adjusted so that they span the velocity range evenly.

If multiple layers are added simultaneously, regardless of this setting, the behavior is as if it were enabled.
