Hi, I'm pretty new to Hydrogen.

first of all: I really love this great program !

I have read through many threads about the same topic, but most of them contined some code, which I really do not understand anything of.

So, my question is:
How can I make my own drumkit out of WAV-sound files I have?
I found some cool samples (as WAV files) for a complete kit, but how do I set them into Hydrogen as a new drum kit?

Apparently this is not very easy.....
But is there, nevertheless a way to do this?

Any help would be highly appreciated !

Thanks !

Hi Lars,

All the earlier posts with code were for linux and mac platforms, where you can run a script inside a terminal, and create a drumkit files like this. I guess the same code can be used on windows platform too, but them you have to create a batch script out of it and run it inside that scary MS-DOS terminal (start > run > cmd). How to make batch scripts goes beyond my knowledge, it's probably not too hard if you google a bit for it.

Good luck!

BTW: You can do it manually too, if you must. Try to open one of these *.xml files inside the directory containing a drumkit (dunno where Hydrogen for windows keeps them..) with a text editor. It's quite a logical structure inside, you'll understand it immediately.

Thanks a lot !

I will have a try at this, if I dare.

There is an easier way to do this using the GUI and without having to get confused with any code. I'm not sure if it works in Windows yet but you can give it a try. The whole process is explained in the following post:

Hope it helps,
Brian

Brians got a great Idea.. but it doesn't work for Windows.

I know your least favorite platform is Windows.. but that is going to be a large part of your audience.. so please get it together guys.

You have the most logical and great sounding program out there and it doesn't work for the PC world. Almost.

You cannot download drum kits from the site or even by downloading them to a seperate file.. the LADSPA effects do not work except for the 3 included. At least find a reverb.. freeverb 3 should be your target. It works fine in Audacity.

If I build a new kit Brians way.. when I save it.. it's gone. It reverts to the GM kit . The samples WAV will play when auditioned, but not when the track is playing.. Nor does the program really save what has been built.

Just 2 things and you would really have something.. A way to download your kits and a reverb.. all other bugs are irritating but small comparitively. Without these two things, Hydrogen misses the mark for being a professional tool of quality..

Hi,

its not the problem that we don't want to support windows. There's just nobody who wants to develop a windows version. Since this is an open source project and nobody gets paid for his work, you have to find a windows developer if you want a windows version...
