different length patterns

The pattern editor doesn't handle different length patterns. If I have two patterns, one which is 4 beats long, and another that is 8 bars long, I can play them in sequence fine (the time-tracking arrow slows down for the 8 beat pattern), but if I add them both to position one in the pattern sequencer, only the first 4 beats of the 8 beat pattern play - the rest is cut off.

This makes it difficult to mix different patterns, and the current pattern sequencer doesn't make much logical sense. I haven't really looked very hard, but the bar numbers at the top of the pattern sequencer don't change if the pattern length changes - how does this affect the timing when playing with another program through Jack? Does hydrogen speed up the tempo for longer patterns, or do the numbers just go out of sync?

A better way might be to simply have a non pattern-length specific pattern sequencer. Propellerheads Reason has one like this. This would have the added advantage of being able to start a 4 beat pattern on beat 2 of a song (or any other abritrary beat, or quater beat, or what ever).

Or am I missing something?

hydrogen 0.9.4
Sorry, but it change. If you change pattern size the sequenzer must be stopped. Then you will see that the pattern editor show you different pattern length.

??? in Hydrogen you can make "n" Pattern for each Song. Just create more pattern and mix pattern with the right length.

And... yes, it will go out of sync. I test this with ardour.
But if you arrange a Song, normaly the composer (you) must make a correct composition. In Ardour you can set the correct beats for each Bar, and in Hydrogen this must be conform. Elsewhere it will go out of sync.
