Hi to everyone,

I don't know if it is the right place to post, but
I'd like to start a parallel/inside project to Hydrogen:
an Hydrogen pattern style library

Why? because I've seen that there're no free/open drum machine with styles and patterns and that many (really many) people need it to practice or to accompain their songs (and can't program theirself).

I think Hydrogen is a great software! and I thik that progject will also augmente the Hydrogen visibility and diffusion, for shure.

I'd like if we can collaborate and if you can give me some suggestion for that project:

( I'm really in a beta, suggestion collect stage )

my mail: marco.sebastiani(at)gmail.com
(I'm an Italian software engenear / bass player)

best regards,
marco

Hi marco !!

This is a very nice project ! It's great that you started it, because we're *very* happy about any help from the community.

Are you familiar with the soundlibrary download feature from hydrogen 0.9.4 ? I'm gonna send you a mail with some details/ideas about that, it would be too much detailed for this forum talk..

Just a quick note: The pattern license should be clear. So you'll have to make sure that the patterns don't infringe someone's copyright and provide copyright informations along with your patterns.

Hi mouser, thanx for any suggestion!
I know a little about "soundlibrary download feature" in 0.9.4 v.
the internet updating and install is really brilliant!

i'd like to do something similar but about patterns!
(now in "my" project the .h2song format is a little primitive....)

for the copyright question, I'm starting also a project in sourceforge, where will be clear that is all GPL license, and where the download will be done.

we'll continue that conversation by mail!
if someone else is interested....
contact us

best regards!

Hi Marco,

This is great idea. It will surely help many guitarists/bassists and also producers who need a quick way to inspire their own grooves.

I would like to participate in this project and already mailed you about that. I have few thoughts/suggestions for this project:

-Every single pattern has to be top quality. Really.

-Is this gonna be integrated in Hydrogen? Hopefully so, and preferably very tightly integrated so that you can audition a pattern with a single click and drag it to song editor and everything works as it should, like Apple Loops in GarageBand or Logic.

-Some Hydrogen kits are mapped differently than others - some are based on gm drum mapping and some not. How are we gonna handle this? Do we make same patterns multiple times so they will work with every kit or do we want that patterns work correctly with just one kit? I would prefer some kind of compromise as some death metal patterns don't necessarily need to work with hip hop kits.

If this project succeeds it makes already badass drum machine even more badass.

(sorry for my english, i'm living in finland and i'm just 14 years old - but don't worry, I have quite a lot experience from making music)

Cheers,

Lenno

hiho,
h2 0.9.4 knows pattern categories.
if i implement the pattern save and load feature i also implement a sort by pattern categories. that mean if you create a pattern you can edit the category by open the context menu on pattern right click ->property's. there you can add a patternname and the category e.g. metal. than you can save the pattern by using context menu ->save pattern. after this you will find a pattern item in sond library tab on the right side. if you expand the item you will found the category and if you expand this item you found the pattern by name. on mouse over an pattern item you will see the drumkitname for this pattern (tooltip). and it's also possible to drag the pattern and drop it on the right place in song editor pattern list.:-)
all pattern will saved in .hydrogen/data/pattrern

also it's possible to add pattern and songs to soundlibrary server lists.
imo, if you create patterns you get no problem with the instrument id's if you also share the right soundlibrarys on the same place. so the best way to share pattern and songs is the soundlibrary server lists feature.

Hm, we could collect some patterns and put them on a server, there is no point against it. If there are enough people who want to contribute something, we can put he files into a repository or something.
