Insert bars

Hello

Several years ago I posted a question regarding the insertion of bars into a hydrogen song   (http://www.hydrogen-music.org/hcms/node/1903)  wolke kindly advised to use the "select mode".  This is fine but if the bars to be inserted are at the beginning of the piece and the piece is quite long it would require rather lengthy mouse drag/cut/paste operations...  What I have discovered is that by:

1. creating a one bar long empty pattern in your song, we'll name it "empty_pattern"

2. saving your song

3. editing the *.h2song with any simple text editor and adding

<group> <patternID>empty_pattern</patternID> </group>

right after the "<patternSequence>" line,

a bar is added right at the beginning of the song. If you add this line twice you create 2 bars etc.  It's not too hard a hack to add more empty bars elsewhere in your song by the same method.  When you reopen the song in hydrogen the bars will be added pushing the song back by the number of bars added.

I hope this might be useful

Hello, ccaaee. This is a cool trick, I'll definitely be using it.

you can also switch to 'select' mode in the song editor, select the bars you want to move, and ... move them :-)

Hi,

there is a shorter way to create additional bars at the beginning of a song. Just open the *.h2song file with an editor and place a new line with the tag <group/> (note the following slash) after the "<patternSequence>" line. Thats it! Repeat it as much as you need more bars at the beginning.

Have fun...

Any advice how to create open bars in the middle of a song into which you can copy/drag a pattern into?

thanks

Hi chupacabra,

in the same way like creating empty bars at the beginning. You can insert the <group/> tag wherever you need it. ;-)

Hi all. Sorry if I ask here, but in this way I won't open another similar thread. I'm new to H2 and I'm learning it. I wonder why there is no unique bar lenght for the whole song. I don't know if I have explained myself clearly but, to make an example, when I used to record with Cubase, we just played the drum via a midi keyboard and adjusted each single note in the tablature, there was a whole rythmic section, it wasn't divided in sections.
I find this a little trickier because if I have a fill at a certain point of the song, I have to build a pattern... say 2 bars, while the others are 7 or 8.
As I said, I don't know if what I wrote is clear since I'm completely new to this. And in the past I only wrote, played, arranged, but a friend of mine took care of the recording so for me is like speak arabic.
