Alesis ControlPad doesn't connect with Hydrogen on Mac - advice?

Hi all,

I started using Hydrogen a few weeks ago and it's ace so far! But now I'm running into a problem trying to connect my old Alesis ControlPad to it. The setting is: ControlPad via USB into a MacBook running Hydrogen. Garageband and Reaper both recognise the pad and play back sound, but Hydrogen won't, so far. I tried setting up the MIDI system in the settings, using CoreAudio, but when I try to input a MIDI note (i.e., banging a pad), nothing happens at all. At this point, I thought that it didn't really matter which note the pad is configured to play, but I tried all 8, and nothing worked.

Is this an issue some of you may have encountered before? Do any of you know any further steps I might take?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

hi

are you using Jack for audio/midi ?

in the main toolbar (see this part of the manual) there is a midi activity indicator

this lights up whenever hydrogen recieves a midi message, do you see this ?

Hi Thijs,

Thanks for your reply! I don't use Jack, no. I've installed JackOSX now but can't get it to work properly yet (it doesn't find programs and devices, like the manual says it should), but I'll keep trying.

The midi activity indicator doesn't light up, no. I will try to fix the Jack issue first, and then hopefully that will settle the Midi problem. Do you have any further advice on this? Thanks so much for now!

if you have any questions about Jack on OSX you should check out this group : http://audio-and-linux.blogspot.com/2012/10/hydrogen-drumkit-creator-script-v5-is.html

i have no experience with core-audio, so i wont be able to help you with this :-(

maybe someone else on the forum can give some tips ?
