Hello,

I'm using 0.9.4-svn beta 3 on OpenSUSE 11.1... I installed from source: and I don't know why but I can only seem to run Hydrogen as root. when running as user I get "Segmentation fault". What could the problem be?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I've tried it here as well on a fresh OpenSuse 11.1 and it runs without problems, as a user and as root.

You could try to make a backtrace:

1. gdb hydrogen
2. run
3. When it crashes, type "bt"

and send us the output. Feel free to ask if you encounter problems !

Thanks very much! I had no idea how to make a backtrace before, that's incredibly helpful. I got:

#0 0x081a6125 in ?? ()
#1 0x081abe26 in ?? ()
#2 0x081ac9de in ?? ()
#3 0x080f2123 in ?? ()
#4 0xb6b5d705 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/libc.so.6
#5 0x0805e6d1 in ?? ()

Hope that's helpful - means nothing to me :/

Hi!

Can you give us a little bit more output? Just copy the output of hydrogen and gdb. And please replace "bt" with "thr apply all bt", that gives us informations about all threads. Thanks for your report!

Btw. , have you tried it with one user or with more then one?
Another trick: Copy your hydrogen preferences directory /home/username/.hydrogen to /home/username/.hydrogen-old and let hydrogen create a fresh one (happens automatically).

Wow.

Your last trick [letting Hydrogen make a new user directory] worked immediately! You've literally saved my job on this one... writing some music for a play, fairly big contract, and thought I'd lost everything! I owe you big time, thanks!!

Great!

Have you made a copy of your .hydrogen folder? It would be interesting for us to get a copy of it to see why it crashes.

Not sure what happened... couldn't post. I have made a copy - it's .hydrogen-old, right? but I can't attach it to my posts here...

so here's a link to the config files:

Let me know when you've had a look. I've actually had a similar problem on my laptop now! But I don't think it's Hydrogen since Audacity won't run either...
