Hi!

just to make sure that nobody gets bored over the Christmas holidays we
decided to release the first beta version of hydrogen 0.9.5 as a special
gift for everyone.. This release is meant as a first "public" preview
and mainly for testing purposes. Here's a quick list of some new features:

- non destructive sample editor ( requires rubberband-cli for advanced
features )
- a timeline
- instrument midi out
- better support for non-ascii filenames ( changed XML-Parser from
TinyXML to QtXml )
- piano-roll editor
- export to ogg, aiff and flac
- ...

The sourcecode and Binaries for Ubuntu 8.04 / 9.04 / 9.10 and debian sid are available here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hydrogen/files/.
Please report crashes and other glitches here:
http://www.assembla.com/spaces/hydrogen/tickets

Merry Christmas to all of you and enjoy your holidays!

Hi.

In first, thanks for all this work ! It permit us to play with a powerfull percussion's sequencer.

The director, when he's open, is very big at my opinion. But, maybe it's a choice ? (It is just my opinion)

Little correction in french translation.

In menu "Projet" (project), there is :
"Ouvrir un d?mo" instead of "Ouvrir une d?mo" (d?mo is a feminine word)

In menu "Outils" (tools), there is :
"Director" instead of "Directeur" (or maybe "Conducteur" = "driver")

In "Pr?f?rences", "Syst?me audio", there is "Red?marer la sortie" instead of "Red?marrer la sortie"

...
mmm
...

I look over the menu, and it seem there a lot of untranslated/bad-translated words. Do you want that I correct all these stuffs ?
Just give me the way to process.

Bye,
Olivier (french translator for Audacity)

@olinuxx
native speaker help for translations is great. make h2 translations
is really easy. here we have a small translation howto.
http://trac.assembla.com/hydrogen/wiki/i18n%3Aindex

and thanks that you offer us your help. this is great.

if you have edit some ts files just mail them to our devel list.
and its not important to make a complete job. every new translated string is welcome here.

some words to the director.
the director needs some develop. if i write them, i try to create a visual click like a metronome. the idea was to trim musik you play into a band or what ever with mashine sequences without a click on your ears.
i use them and its works ok... not super. its really difficult to sync visual impulses with acoustic impulses. this is why the director is big. but you can scale them. i use fullscreen if i work with director. mostly my notebock stands 2-3 meters away from a place i act witch my guitar. in moment i plan to rewrite the blink effect. in moment the blink have four different conditions. on(beat), with alpha blend and a frame around(and), off and red(first beat in bar). this is hard to follow if the bpm value will increase (<170).
to improve this i thinking about a illuminated rectangle which move from one side to the other. each first beat the color fade from green into red.

i forget the other director function. you can use them as teleprompter :).
he can display two different tags. first row is a current tagt. second row show what happens on a next tagged bar.

you can add song tags by middle clicking on position ruler. this will open the tag-editor.

To dload latest version, do I delete 0.9.3 completely from harddrive. If so, should I copy and paste all "my drum beats" folder into my documents then back in the new folder after installation of 0.9.5? I have almost 50 songs that I do not want to disappear because of my own stupidity.

Hi!

You can compile hydrogen on your own and install it in a folder. Just *don't* do "scons install" then!!
This is described here: http://trac.assembla.com/hydrogen/wiki/development%3Aqt4compile
Now you can test hydrogen 0.9.5 without removing 0.9.3.
Hydrogen won't touch your songs at all..

That's too much for my hungover head right now. Sorry, I think I meant I wanted to get 0.9.4 and save all my beats from 0.9.3. So do I go about it like I described in my last post?

I am on XP OS also

One other thing...most importantly: Will older version songs open in newer software to continue to edit?

If you want to make sure nothing gets damaged burn everything to a cd or copy it to another folder.
I can't promise that everything works as in 0.9.3, but you can re-install 0.9.3 in case 0.9.4 works not as expected. Just backup your work before..
You're on windows?? If i remember correctly, there is no 0.9.3 for windows..

Ok, I have 0.9.4 (March 9, 2006 is what it says when penguin dude is loading). Is there anything different or better about the latter 0.9.4 that came out late 2009?

There is just one single windows version. It was just an experiment. At the moment we don't have developers who work on windows..

Well if this is the place to throw in a vote, I am all for it. This has been a wonderful piece of software that's helped me write a ton of music in the last couple years. Not saying I'll be on windows forever, but it's a great program for sure.
