Hydrogen crashes every time I load a song or attempt to create a new one.

It just quits... It does not seem to matter which song or where it's loaded from. The only change I've made to my system (Ubuntu studio 11.04) recently is to install Banshee, and uninstalling it makes no difference. I've also reinstalled Hydrogen without success. This is really frustrating... Any ideas?

Hi!

Which version of hydrogen are you using?

0.9.4.2 I believe. The latest version in the Ubuntu studio repository.

Hi!

You can try to use this PPA: http://hydrogen.popez.org/hcms/node/1868

It has always the newest version of hydrogen, maybe this solves your problem?

Thanks. I'll give it a shot :)

No luck... I have the exact same problem with the PPA version. Any other ideas?

*Edit: I just noticed that if I quit Hydrogen after making changes to the current song, there is no "current project has not been saved" dialogue. It just quits.

the segfault on opening/create a song was a known bug in trunk. it is solved since rev. 2314. maybe the ppa maintainer build from a buggy reversion. this was never a bug in versions <0.9.6. so i don't know what goes wrong with your h2 0.9.4 installation.

to get a working version just checkout trunk(head version) and compile it from source.

usefully links to build hydrogen from source:

http://hydrogen.popez.org/hcms/node/1859

http://trac.assembla.com/hydrogen/browser/trunk/INSTALL.txt

this list most needed dependencies:

http://trac.assembla.com/hydrogen/wiki/development%3Aqt4compile

you additional need cmake.

libflac is not in use since we use linsndfile buildin flac support.

jack session support simply need jack >=0.120.1 or 1.9.7

I think I've figured out the problem, and it's caused by a bad song file somehow. If I load this particular song, all subsequent attempts to load a song results in a crash. This song file was loaded automatically on startup, as I was working on it, and so all files I tried to open would cause H2 to die. I changed the preferences to not load the last project on startup, and it's working fine so far. Kind of a bummer having to throw away a good drum track, but at least I can get back to work :)

Thanks again for your help.

Hi!

Can you send us this songfile? Maybe i can reproduce the error on my system and fix the bug in hydrogen.

You can send it to me via mauser@smoors.de if you want.
