When Hydrogen  is working, no other music program works. It seems that hydrogem is very jealous about the sound system. Is it suposed to be like that or is there some configuration that solves the problem?

Hydrogen 0.9.5 on Linux Opensuse 11.3.

Hydrogen default was jack. I've tried to set hydrogen to jack, then to ALSA, then to OSS; the same problem happens.

The other program (Smplayer) is set to ALSA.

Another program (VLC) is set to standard (default); I don't know which one is the default (but there is the option to choose jack or Alsa or OSS directly).

Smplayer and VLC work together fine. But none of then works with hydrogen.

start jack generally before you start hydrogen. qjackctl for example is a nice gui to control jackd, configure jackd  and also to manage all jack connections. i never use suse, so i can't give you tips to tweak your system. but the error-messages told me that you also have to reconfigure some permissions to get rt access. also it looks that you can tweak a bit your limits.conf file.

I've stared jack before hydrogen (with qjackcl). But the problem continues. Nevrtheless, the messages are just

Cannot lock down memory area (Cannot allocate memory)
Cannot lock down memory area (Cannot allocate memory)

What is rt acess?

In my limits.conf there is no settings. Should be some?

add to limits.conf

@audio - rtprio 99

@audio - memlock unlimited

important, you must be member of group audio. if you are currently not in group audio, maybee it will also solve this Problem "Cannot use real-time scheduling (RR/10)(1: Operation not permitted)"

whatever, i have no experience on suse. under debian this settings are obligatory.
