I'm a bass player in an indie-space-pop-rock band, and I'm also responsible for software sound and effects. Our guitar players use analog stompboxes, but I'm a big fan of digital sound due to it's flexibility.

We're using  very similar setup, but we usually play loops or entire songs instead of one-shots, and use midi keyboard, not pads, and i use usb audio interface instead of built-in audio, cause we also use laptop for some voice FXing. Your article was very helpful when I just started with linux sound!

nice to hear that the live-usage article was useful :-)  > i'm currently working on a 'film scenario' for making a tutorial video about the live setup (wont be for the first couple of weeks!)

so you are using an external USB audio device with multiple in/outs for FX processing on the vocals + looping.  do you use an external mixer, or do you mix the FX'd vocals and your drumloops on the laptop?

Everything mixed on the laptop, no external mixer
