Hello everyone,
My name's Mark Johnson and I work for OSS Watch, an open source advisory service for UK education based at the University of Oxford.

We're currently compiling a list of Open Source Options for Education - open source options for educational establishments where proprietary software might otherwise be considered.

Hydrogen is on our list, but as part of the list we'd like to include examples of real-world usage where possible.

If you're currently using Hydrogen in an educational context and are happy for us to use you as an example, please post a reply letting me know where you're from with any information you're willing to provide about your Hydrogen usage (or a link to some information online if any exists) and we'll mention it in the final document.

Thank you!

Mark Johnson

hi Mark

sounds like an interesting project!

AFAIK there is no real educational project for H2, but i think the tutorials, videos and the manual already have a high 'educational' quality

what is your target audience ?  age ? background ?

if you do manage to create some sort of 'training' for H2 be sure to let us know so we can link to it on the H2 site

good luck!

Hi Thijs,

Thanks for your response.

The target audience is mainly UK Higher and Further education (16+) institutions.  We're not trying to produce training on Hydrogen, we're a service providing unbiased advice on Open Source Software.  The document we're producing is aiming to inform people about the Open Source alternatives to the closed source solutions they might otherwise procure, to help them make more informed choices.

Hey there Mark!  Yes, I am using Hydrogen in one of my afternoon loop-based audio production classes at a Continuation High School.  Money is tight, and Hydrogen is a great open source program to teach the kids the basics of programming, song format and structure.  We use this in conjunction with garageband (as this comes free with the Macs)so that the kids get the idea of importing their work into a DAW.  I hope that helps!  Feel free to Email me lopez.cesar.h@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Thanks clopez,

I'd really appreciate a bit more information, but appreciate you might not want to give some details on an open forum, so I've emailed you.
