Hi all,

I'm a new user of Hydrogen (0.8.0), an I wonder how I can get synchonized the Clock & Start/Stop to run Hydrogen in slave-mode controlled be the clock from a midi sequencer like jazz++ . Is this feature implemented ? How do the other users solve synchronizing with external midi-sequencers ?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi, sorry but is not possible (for now) to sync hydrogen with a midi-sequencer.
Currently hydrogen can be sync'ed only with a jack-transport master application like ardour.

Hi Comix and others,

many thanks for your reply.

"Currently hydrogen can be sync'ed only with a jack-transport master"

Ok, that sounds good and probably it is the best way to sync all Jack-app's. Jack & Ardour is new stuff for me, and I'm impressed about the results of linux-audio-dev over the last years. I never tought before that it is possible today to run HD-recording, synth's, drums, effects, sequencer syncronized in realtime on only one pc-system.

Respect and thanks to all developers ! :-)

As I have said before - I need to get a little bit more practise with using these app's, but this is very cool stuff for me !

I'm using SuSE 9.0 on a PC with a 2.4 Ghz CPU with 256 MB RAM , a MidiSport2x2 Interface and a Kurzweil K2000 v 3.0 Keyboard. Do you think that this is enough to make 'complete' music productions on the fly, or do you think I need to record in more than only one step? Will the the performance be good with running Hydrogen, some polyphon soft-synths apps and some effect-apps parallel or is it to much ?

regards, Markus

A 2.4GHz should be ok. I'm using an old pIII@800MHz and I can run without problems hydrogen+ardour+some ladspa fx. The latency is very high (buffer size 4096), but I think that with your hardware you can use very low latency (buffer<512).

Hi Comix,

ok, thanks. I saw Hydrogen 0.8.0 was to old for sync, and now after compiling the latest version I can sync Hydrogen from a Jack-Master application. :-) I also need to install the latest Ardour version , so I tried to sync Hydrogen from the rosegarden4 Master instead. It seems that snyc works, but there was problems , the audio stream sounds interrupted. But playing Hydrogen controlled by itself makes no problems and sounds fine.

I tried to change some parameters in the jack-server, but the stream is still interrupted. I don't know if the problem is known, but I will try to find out which settings must be changed.

all sync and audio runs fine with the latest version of ardour and hydrogen. There must be some problems with the rosegarden4 release.
