Hi guys, i was wondering if i can play bass lines in Hydrogen instead of using Qsynth. I found something in the forum but it wasn't so clear. Thank you in advance. :-)

Hi!

Well, there is a small "trick" to get that done. If you have one sample of a bass (say a wav file), you can use it in combination with the piano roll editor to get a bass line. Just create a new instrument and set the wav file as the first layer of that instrument. Then switch the piano roll editor and compose you bass line. The sample will be automatically pitched up/down.. That's just a quick hack to get a bass line in hydrogen, it is not thought as full replace for a synth. But you can get pretty good results if you have a nice sample to start with.

Btw, there is also a guitar soundlibrary available. Just fire up the soundlibrary manager and look for the "ac guitar strums" kit.

Thank you! Can i play the notes in the piano roll editor with my keyboard while Hydrogen is recording?

Yes! But you have to switch the input mode to "instrument mode" (the other mode is named "drumkit mode" . If you have a recent version of hydrogen, the setting can be found in one of the menus on the top.
