Hi guys. Hope you might help me with this small issue.

Whenever i apply a plugin to an instrument, if i mute it and play the track, the instrument plays anyway.

Also, i was wondering if it might be better to use a 3rd program to handle plugins and effects, by creating an output for each instrument in H.

Thank you in advance.

AFAIK you cant apply an effect to an instrument, you add an effect to a send bus

so are you saying that you have muted your instruments but you still hear it when you play the song ?

and this only happens when a plugin is acive ?

I found a forum where they said you can create an output for each instrument and manage them through Jack. So i connected a single instrument output to a Rakarrack input and applied some effects, and it works.

Anyway it's exactly as you say. For example if i apply a reverb to an instrument and then mute it, i can still hear the muted instrument when i play the track. If i remove the effect or just decrease the FX knob then it doesn't play.

for 'per-instrument' outputs please check out this part of the manual : http://hydrogen-music.org/hcms/node/5#sect.preferences.audio_tab

what you are hearing is probably just the 'wet' signal : the output of the effect plugin.  As noted in this part of the manual http://hydrogen-music.org/hcms/node/5#sect.mixer.channel_strips, the fx sends are pre-fader

if you want to have more control over the different instruments (and the FX) you should indeed consider using 'per-instrument' output
