Is there any way to use Hydrogen like an x0x or Electribe step sequencer?

Hi all,

Is there any way to input each step with a MIDI note, like an Electribe or a 303? In my head I want to be able to select a drum, then input each step by pressing a button - can this be done with Hydrogen?

Thanks,

James

hi

sure!

- hook up a midi keyboard or midi controller and configure it correctly (see http://hydrogen-music.org/hcms/node/5#sect.preferences.midi_tab)

- hit the record button

- play the midi keyboard/controller

or you can use your pc keyboard (see http://hydrogen-music.org/hcms/node/5#sect.pattern_editor.drumkit  for the mapping)

- hit the record button

- hit the keys on your PC keyboard

voila :-)

Hi Thijs,

Thanks for getting back to me - however, that's not how I want to do it! I don't want to have to play out the rhythm, I want 16 steps in front of me, then I can press the buttons for the 1s step, the 5th step, etc - I just find programming drums much easier and quicker this way, especially live. Can this be done in Hydrogen?

Thanks,

James

hmm..

not quite sure i understand your question

are you talking about quantization ?  (if yes you might want to have a look at this : http://hydrogen-music.org/hcms/node/5#sect.pattern_editor.controls)

hope this helps

ah, ok now i get it :-S

you are talking about the 'old school' sequencer where you have a dedicated knob per 'position'

AFAIK hydrogen does noet support this, using the mouse is the only option to do this
