Hi all

When I try and run hydrogen 0.9.3, I get the following line come up in red in my terminal...

AlsaAudioDriver Can't set realtime scheduling for ALSA Driver

I have tried changing the audio driver in preferences, but it hangs my entire system and I have to pull the plug! (I lose keyboard and mouse control...everything just dies on me)

I'm using FC5 with kernel 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5smp

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is something you have to activate in your Alsa driver.
If Alsa is included in your kernel then it is just a module to compile and load, and if you have alsa as a standalone package then I don't know how to make it work.

Before reinstalling anything, you should mabe try to run Hydrogen as root.

You probably don't have realtime capability in your kernel. Planet CCRMA has a patched kernel and PAM in their repositories, but you have to downgrade to Fedora Core 4 with a clean installation. Fedora 5 is still in progress.

Programs that try to get realtime capabilities from the kernel can hang your system - if there isn't any.

By the way, with all correct patches Linux wins any Windows system in audio work. Even Mac has a tough competition as long as you have a professional grade audio card.
