Can't hear any sound

I'm a totally new at this and I really wanted to give this a shot but I don't exactly what I'm doing. I do know that I can't hear any sound. Played with the mute buttons, volume controls, sound card thing and I don't know what's up. I have an audigy 2 card, ubuntu edgy. help
